Nach Posten in Bukarest, Mexiko-Stadt, bei den Vereinten Nationen in New York, in Ramallah und zahlreichen Positionen im Inland, zuletzt als Beauftragter für Globalisierung, Energie und Klimapolitik, ist er seit 2014 Regionalbeauftragter für Nah- und Mittelost und Maghreb.
Jörg Armbruster ist Journalist, Nahost-Experte und langjähriger Auslandskorrespondent und Studioleiter des ARD-Büros in Kairo mit Zuständigkeit für den Nahen und Mittleren Osten. Mehrere Jahre moderierte er außerdem den Weltspiegel.
